August 2018 Newsletter

From the CEO

MatchRX 3.0 and MatchSquare

Over the last 12 months, MatchRX has been busy designing a new and improved marketplace scheduled to launch before the end of the year. Not just an upgrade but MatchRX 3.0.  We have taken the best parts of our existing marketplace and added many new features suggested by you, our loyal members. The new marketplace will be faster, easier to use, and full of new features designed to improve your experience. To complement the new marketplace, we will be launching Android and iOS apps that will allow you to buy, post, sell, and confirm orders directly from your mobile device.

Just as exciting, we are launching MatchSquare. MatchSquare will connect unique front-end merchandise wholesalers and manufacturers with you, providing your pharmacy with access to thousands of interesting, popular, and creative items to help boost your front-end sales. If you’ve ever wondered who to contact to get a specific product, you no longer have to search. You’ll likely find them on MatchSquare. Think Amazon for independent pharmacies. Easy, fast, reliable.

We have lots to share in the coming months, which is why we have created a new section in our newsletter called “Sneak Peek”. The Sneak Peek section will highlight new features and functionality delivered with the launch the new MatchRX marketplace, mobile apps, and MatchSquare. I encourage you to read the Sneak Peek section every month.

Thank you for your continued membership. As always, we remain passionate about community pharmacy and look forward to helping you and your business thrive!

John Kello, CEO

The pharmacist’s role is expanding as the healthcare arena moves from fee-for-service to value-based payments.

“Physicians are warming to the idea of working alongside pharmacists in their practice settings. In fact, not only are they warming to it, many physicians are carving out a pharmaceutical piece of part of their risk-sharing agreements,” says Susan Cantrell, RPh, CEO of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). With recent reports of increasing fall-related deaths among patients 65 and older, pharmacists’ services are proving to be critical in efforts to curb this growing health threat.

“Many adults take multiple medications, with more than half of them using at least one medication with side effects that may increase the risk of falling,” said Grant Baldwin, PhD, MPH, director of the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention at CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. “Reviewing medications with a pharmacist or other provider is one of the most important steps older adults can take to reduce their fall risk.” (…read more)

Direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees create extra costs for pharmacies, patients, and the healthcare system.

And momentum is building to eliminate them.

More than 115 healthcare organizations are currently pushing legislation to eliminate the fees. The National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) has heavily lobbied against them. And its CEO has written op-eds for various national media outlets exposing the practice.

In a February 2018 survey by NCPA, community pharmacists voted DIR fees as their top legislative… (…read more)

Helpful Hints

Tip 1: Confirm your sales orders on time. It helps your cash flow and bottom line.

Sellers, confirming orders ON TIME is not only important to your pharmacys cash flow and bottom line, it is also important to your Buyers and their patients. Buyers are ordering to fill a specific patient script and are anxious to receive the item. The sooner you confirm and ship, the sooner it arrives and funds are transferred into your account.

Here are some tips:

  • Sellers receive an email when an item is purchased. Check your email at least twice a day, once in the morning and in the afternoon.
  • Don’t have the time? Assign someone in your pharmacy to check for sales daily.
  • Login and click on the “Messages” tab. All email communications can be viewed.
  • Check the Manage tab. Any open orders will be populated for you to quickly confirm. All orders in transit can be viewed as well, click on the Manage tab > Pending Sales.

  • Use the QuickSearch feature to quickly search by NDC or drug name / strength.
  • Click on the drug image to view additional item details and the sellers other items.
  • When posting an item, place the mouse in the NDC field and scan the package bar code with a standard bar code scanner.
  • Quickly check the marketplace comparison chart to be competitive when setting the price.
  • Add a note to let buyers know of any package or label markings.
  • Set text message alerts on your Profile page for quick notification of a sale or delivery.

Tip 3: Shipping frozen/refrigerated items in HOT weather.

It’s summer and it’s important to remember shipping frozen or refrigerated items during these hot months need extra attention. Here are some tips:

  • Check how many hours your cool pack will keep contents cool. Important to note since travel time is overnight.
  • Wrap item in a plastic bag to keep from water damage.
  • Make sure the item is touching the cold pack, this will ensure the item stays cold.
  • Use a Styrofoam box, it makes for a great insulator. Keep a stack in your pharmacy.
  • Prepare your shipment, but keep the product in the freezer until FedEx picks-up your box.
  • Add a green “Refrigerated Item” sticker to your box, supplied to your pharmacy allowing the buying pharmacy to identify the frozen/refrigerated box. Out of stickers? contact customerservice@matchrx.com. In a pinch? Write “REFRIGERATED/FROZEN” on the box with a sharpie.
